Eligible children of serving Army personnel, retired personnel and specified casualty categories can receive scholarships, fee concessions, reserved seats and hostel-related benefits at selected universities under AWWA-linked arrangements.
The six institutions below are selected examples, not the complete list of colleges and universities offering benefits to Army families.
Which university offers the highest concession?
Several institutions provide substantial support, but the benefit depends on the beneficiary category.
At Sri Sharada Institute, eligible Army wards can receive a 100% scholarship, although accommodation and messing charges remain separate.
At FLAME University, concessions can range from 50% to 100% depending on whether the parent is serving, retired, killed in action or disabled in action.
At DAV University, eligible wards of personnel killed or disabled in action may receive a 100% annual tuition scholarship.
Where are reserved seats available?
Some institutions combine fee concessions with reserved seats.
Medhavi Skills University provides 200 undergraduate and 50 postgraduate seats, along with a 50% tuition concession.
Manav Rachna provides 10% reservation across courses and 20 reserved BDS seats.
BEST Innovation University also provides reserved seats in specified programmes.
Scholarship and reserved seat do not mean the same thing
Army families should distinguish between three terms:
Scholarship: Financial support towards specified educational expenses.
Fee concession: A percentage reduction in the applicable fee.
Reserved seat: A seat earmarked for an eligible category, subject to admission conditions.
A 100% tuition scholarship does not necessarily mean that hostel, food, accommodation or other charges are also free.
Who can be eligible?
Eligibility differs from one institution to another and may include:
Wards of serving Army personnel
Wards of retired Army personnel
Wards of personnel killed in action
Wards of personnel disabled in action
Wards of personnel who died in harness
Other categories specifically mentioned in the concerned MoU
Therefore, the same benefit is not automatically available to every Army child.
What should families check before admission?
Conclusion
These six institutions offer useful higher-education opportunities for eligible Army families, with benefits ranging from 25% tuition concession to 100% scholarship, along with reserved seats and hostel concessions in some cases.
However, the benefit depends on the institution, course, category and current MoU conditions.
Families should therefore verify the latest terms before paying admission fees.
