More than 1,300 employment opportunities were presented to ex-servicemen at a Directorate General Resettlement (DGR) Job Fair held in Nagpur on 16 October 2026, according to an official Ministry of Defence update.

The event brought together more than 480 ex-servicemen and 42 national and multinational companies, creating a direct platform for veterans seeking a second career after military service.

However, one clarification is important: 1,300+ employment opportunities do not mean that 1,300 ex-servicemen have already received jobs or appointment letters. The official release does not provide the number of final selections or appointments made at the fair.

What happened at the Nagpur DGR Job Fair?

The Directorate General Resettlement, under the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, organised the employment fair to connect retired and retiring Armed Forces personnel directly with private-sector employers.

More than 480 veterans participated, while 42 companies offered over 1,300 employment opportunities across different sectors.

The initiative is part of DGR’s broader effort to support Armed Forces personnel in transitioning from military service to suitable civilian employment.

Which companies participated?

The official Ministry of Defence release names several prominent participating employers, including:

  • Solar Group

  • Delhivery

  • Eros Group

  • Haldiram

  • JSR Dynamics

  • SBI Life

These were among a total of 42 national and multinational companies participating in the event.

The presence of companies from different sectors is important because the civilian employment potential for ex-servicemen is much wider than conventional security-related jobs.

Military personnel leave service with experience in administration, logistics, engineering, technical operations, leadership, transport management, human resources and other specialised fields that can be relevant to private-sector employers.

Are there really 1,300 vacancies for ex-servicemen?

The Government has used the term “employment opportunities”, not confirmed appointments.

Therefore, the correct interpretation is:

42 companies collectively presented more than 1,300 employment opportunities during the DGR Job Fair.

It would be incorrect to report that:

  • 1,300 ex-servicemen have already been selected;

  • 1,300 appointment letters were issued; or

  • every participating veteran received a job.

The official release does not disclose the final number of candidates selected, shortlisted or issued offer letters.

What is the Directorate General Resettlement’s role?

DGR functions under the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, Ministry of Defence and focuses on the resettlement of retiring and retired Armed Forces personnel.

Its activities extend beyond individual job fairs and include areas such as:

  • employment facilitation;

  • skill development;

  • entrepreneurship support; and

  • partnerships with industry.

The objective is to help service personnel prepare for a productive second career after retirement from the Armed Forces.

480 veterans and 1,300 opportunities: what do the numbers tell us?

The numerical comparison is interesting.

More than 480 veterans participated against over 1,300 employment opportunities presented by recruiters.

Numerically, that works out to roughly 2.7 opportunities for every participating veteran.

However, this should not be interpreted as a guaranteed ratio of jobs per candidate.

Every vacancy may have different requirements regarding:

  • qualification; military experience; technical skills; location; salary expectations; and employer-specific selection criteria.

The final outcome depends on matching the right candidate with the right role.
