Army Children Education benefits 2026: GITAM, SASTRA, Lawrence Schools and ALLEN scholarships explained

Army families looking for higher education, school admission or competitive-exam coaching support may have access to valuable benefits through institutional arrangements linked with the Army and AWWA.

These benefits are not part of one common scholarship scheme. Each institution follows its own rules for reserved seats, tuition scholarships, fee concessions, admission weightage or coaching support.

The most important point for parents is simple:

Reserved Seat ≠ Scholarship ≠ Fee Waiver ≠ Completely Free Education

GITAM: Engineering tuition waiver and MBBS support

GITAM offers one of the more substantial packages for eligible Army wards.

The available arrangement includes:

  • 1 reserved MBBS seat

  • Concession of up to ₹10 lakh for the eligible MBBS seat

  • Reserved seats across the Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad and Bengaluru campuses

  • 100% tuition-fee waiver in specified engineering programmes

The covered engineering options include selected programmes in Civil Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and other specialised branches such as Aerospace, Biotechnology, VLSI and Robotics & AI.

Families should remember that a 100% tuition waiver does not automatically mean hostel, mess or other institutional charges are also waived.

SASTRA: Scholarship depends on the Army-family category

SASTRA follows a category-based scholarship structure.

Admission and programme allocation are linked with academic performance, including 10+2 and JEE Main criteria where applicable.

A separate condition applies for continuation of the scholarship: the student is expected to maintain the prescribed academic standard, including 7.0 CGPA.

Lawrence School Sanawar: 100 seats reserved

Lawrence School Sanawar provides 100 reserved seats for wards of Army personnel under the applicable arrangement.

Support may also be available in:

  • Registration fee

  • Admission fee

  • Annual fee

However, these fee subsidies are subject to the availability of bursary funds.

That distinction is important because a reserved seat does not automatically guarantee a full fee subsidy.

Lawrence School Lovedale: 25% subsidy plus admission advantage

Lawrence School Lovedale follows a different benefit structure.

Eligible Army wards can receive:

  • 25% subsidy on annual fee

  • 5 percentage points added to the admission aptitude-test score for merit consideration

  • Personal Account Deposit reduced from ₹1,00,000 to ₹50,000

For example, if a student scores 60% in the applicable admission assessment, the score may be considered as 65% for merit purposes under the stated provision.

ALLEN: Regular concession plus Super 50 support

ALLEN Career Institute offers two different types of support.

For regular coaching, eligible wards of Officers, JCOs and ORs can receive a 15% concession on tuition fees at applicable ALLEN centres across India.

Eligible Battle Casualty or Physical Casualty wards may also receive a ₹15,000 discount.

A separate merit-based programme, commonly referred to as Super 50, provides a much larger benefit.

Students selected through the entrance process for Engineering and Medical coaching can receive at Kota:

  • Free coaching

  • Boarding support

  • Lodging support

The residential benefit mentioned here should be understood specifically in the context of Kota, rather than automatically assuming that it applies at every ALLEN centre.

What should parents check before applying?

Before depending on any of these benefits, Army families should verify:

  • Current validity of the MoU

  • Beneficiary category

  • Course and campus covered

  • Number of reserved seats

  • Admission and merit requirements

  • Whether the benefit covers only tuition or other charges as well

  • Hostel, boarding and mess costs

  • Scholarship continuation conditions

  • Rules applicable to the current academic session

Final takeaway

These Army-family education benefits can significantly reduce the cost of schooling, university education and competitive-exam preparation.

But the headline percentage alone should not decide where a student applies.

A 100% tuition scholarship, a reserved seat, a 25% fee subsidy and free residential coaching are four very different forms of support.

The best approach is to first identify the student’s course and institution, then check the exact Army-category eligibility and the financial benefit available under the current MoU.
